Dead Sea panorama from Masada

View of the barren plains of Dead sea from Masada national park in Israel. This is one of the driest and most desolate part of Israel and is very close to the Jordanian border, in fact in this photo you can even see Jordan just below the horizon.

Masada (Modern Hebrew מצדה metzadá “fortress”) is an ancient fortification in the Southern District of Israel situated on top of an isolated rock plateau, overlooking the Dead Sea. Not much remains of the fortress but what remains was fascinating to a history and ruin buff like me. A more detailed post dedicated to Masada national park will follow, until then this breath-taking panorama of the Dead sea should suffice!

  1. It’s so barren!! And to think that this was the land that Abraham and Lot lived in… What a hard life they would have had !! I wonder if it was so barren before God destroyed the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.
